Union Hall
Wayfinding for a building that does not exist
The brief
Most wayfinding is designed on screen and discovered to be illegible on site. We built a fictional building plan and designed against its actual sightlines and lux levels.
Approach
- 01Modelled the building, then derived minimum cap-height per sign from measured viewing distance.
- 02Designed a directional arrow that reads correctly at 12° off-axis, the worst case in the plan.
- 03Produced a fabrication spec with material, fixing and tolerance for every sign type.
Outcome
Eleven sign types, a sightline study, and a fabrication drawing set ready for a real building.
